Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 28, 2026
1. Introduction
Tether ("we," "us," or "our") is a contact management application designed to help finance and marketing professionals build stronger client relationships. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Tether app (the "Service").
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
• Account Information: Your name, email address, and password used to create your Tether account.
• Contact Data: Information you manually enter or import about your contacts, including names, phone numbers, email addresses, birthdays, employment history, family details, lifestyle preferences, and notes (collectively, "relationship profile data"). Contact data may be imported from your device's phone contacts or vCard (.vcf) files.
• Authentication Data: When you enable two-factor authentication (2FA), we store a TOTP secret and an optional app passcode to secure your account.
• Mailing Data: When you use automated mail features, we collect recipient mailing addresses, your return address, signature images, and preferences such as recipient scope, writing style, and lead time.
• Sent Mail Records: We retain records of physical letters sent on your behalf, including the recipient address, event type, date sent, and writing style used.
• Integration Data: When you connect Google Calendar or Gmail, we access calendar event data and email sending functionality on your behalf through OAuth-authorized connections.
• Holiday Data: We retrieve public holiday data to display in your calendar.
• Usage Data: Log data, device information, and analytics about how you interact with the Service.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
• Provide and maintain the Service, including storing and displaying your contact profiles.
• Sync events with your connected Google Calendar.
• Send emails through your connected Gmail account at your request.
• Generate AI-assisted insights, talking points, gift ideas, and email and letter drafts based on your contact data.
• Compose and send physical letters via our mailing provider (Lob) using your stored return address and signature.
• Sync family relationship data between linked contact profiles.
• Display public holidays in your calendar.
• Send you reminders and notifications about upcoming events, follow-ups, and lifecycle milestones.
• Improve and develop new features.
• Ensure the security and integrity of your account, including two-factor authentication.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely in the cloud with encryption in transit (TLS/SSL). We use industry-standard practices to protect your information. Your contact, event, note, to-do, and mailing data is isolated to your account — other users cannot access your records. Two-factor authentication (2FA) is available to add an extra layer of account security. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information or contact data. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
• With your consent or at your direction (e.g., sending emails through Gmail).
• With service providers who help us operate the Service (e.g., cloud hosting, AI providers) under confidentiality agreements.
• When required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights.
• In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
6. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with Google Calendar, Gmail, and Lob (for physical mail delivery). When you connect these services, their respective privacy policies also apply to data processed by them. We recommend reviewing their policies. We only request the minimum scopes necessary to provide the requested functionality. LinkedIn profile URLs may be stored in contact profiles, but we do not integrate with LinkedIn's API.
7. AI and Data Processing
When you use AI features (e.g., gift ideas, talking points, email drafting, and automated letter drafting), your contact data is sent to AI language model providers to generate responses. For automated physical mailings, AI may draft letter content in your selected writing style (formal, business casual, or casual) using your contact's preferred name and relationship data. We use prompt-based processing and do not use your data to train AI models.
8. Limited Use — Google Workspace API Data
The use of raw or derived user data received from Google Workspace APIs (including Gmail and Google Calendar) will adhere to the Google API User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not transfer raw, aggregated, or derived Google Workspace or Photos API user data to any third-party AI/ML service for the purpose of training foundational or generalized machine learning models. Data accessed via Google Workspace APIs is used solely to provide the requested functionality (such as sending emails on your behalf and syncing calendar events) and is never used to create, train, or improve any AI/ML models.
9. Your Data Rights
You have the right to:
• Access and view your data at any time within the app.
• Export your data using the Backup/Export feature in Settings.
• Delete your account and all associated data, including contacts, events, notes, to-dos, and sent mail records, using the Delete Account option in Settings.
• Manage or disable automated mail preferences at any time.
• Disconnect third-party integrations at any time.
• Request data deletion by contacting us.
10. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently remove your contacts, events, and profile data from our systems within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
11. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us for removal.
12. International Users
Tether is available globally. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your data will be processed and stored in accordance with this Privacy Policy, and you consent to such transfer and processing.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the updated policy in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
14. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact us through the in-app support or at the contact information provided in the app.
